Evanston-- Boy Scouts from Troop 924 took home the trophy at this years
annual Potawatomi District Klondike Cup on Saturday, February 4th. The
event was held at Camp Oakarro in Wadsworth, Illinois. Like Yukon prospectors
from the Gold Rush era, Scouts ordinarily pull their equipment dog sled
style through the snow. The recent mild weather this year made mud the
challenge, so most sleds substituted wheels for skis. Skills the Scouts
were required to demonstrate included using a compass, tying knots, fire
building, and figuring out a way to get the gear cross an imaginary
river. More than 90 Boy Scouts participated. |
